Girls Learn To Play Hockey For FREE

Sunday, September 30, 2018, 9:06AM

Wakefield Youth Skating Association is starting a free Girls Hockey program, with grant funding from Mass Hockey's Mike Cheever Grow Hockey Program. This learn to play program is designed to introduce girls ages 5-9 to the sport of ice hockey. Skaters are expected to be able to stand up on their own and make forward progress.

As part of this program WYSA has access to limited sets of loaner protective gear and skates that have been donated. All skaters are required to wear full protective gear.

All participants will need to register for USA hockey. It's free for girls born 2012 and younger and $48 for girls born 2011 and older.

To participate in the program, skaters should:

  1. Sign-up today for the Girls Try Hockey Program at http://www.wysa.net/l2pgirlsfree
  2. Register with USA Hockey by visiting their website at https://www.usahockeyregistration.com/login_input.action. Note that skaters ages 4-6 can register for free, and the cost to register skaters ages 7-9 is $48.

Interested in this exciting program? For more information, please attend an informational meeting at the Public Safety Building, 1 Union Street in Wakefield on October 30th at 7 PM. If you have questions, please contact Bill Welch at welchwi1126@gmail.com.
