WYSA Picture Night!

Tuesday, November 6, 2018, 12:05AM
This year's annual WYSA Picture Nights will take place from Monday, November 12th through Friday, November 16th at Hockeytown. To make the event more efficient, we are spreading the sessions across several days. See the schedule below to identify what time/date your player's team has been assigned.

Here are important notes about Picture Night:
  • We are happy to announce that we will be working with Brogen Photography this season for our individual and team photos. Please take a moment to review the below information about Brogen Photography, and their Picture Day Pre-Order system. If you have any questions, feel free to contact them directly at (781) 209-5888 or info@brogen.com. You can see samples of their award-winning work at Brogen Sports - Hockey.
  • In a change from previous years, all purchased pictures and items will be mailed to the addresses on the submitted order forms. Coaches will NOT be distributing them to players/parents.

  • Pictures will be taken in the upstairs street hockey rink.

  • In order to stay on-schedule, we would like to ask the following of all WYSA players:

    • Please consider putting some (or all) equipment on at home, and just get skates on at Hockeytown. This is especially helpful for younger players.
    • Please follow the schedule for each team shown below. We need to adhere to that time-frame in order to complete all teams.
    • Absolutely no street hockey will be allowed anywhere within Hockeytown.
  • During all Picture Night sessions, WYSA will be accepting donations of equipment in good working order (especially skates and sticks) to support our efforts to grow Girls Hockey via our Girls Free Learn-to-Play program. You can see more details at http://www.wysa.net/l2pgirlsfree. Take advantage of this chance to clean out the basement & garage of everything your player has outgrown!

  • From our photography vendor Brogan Phtography:

Who We Are: Brogen Photography is an international award winning portrait and sports photography studio serving clients all over New England. We are the first and only professional photography studio with two Certified Professional Photographers (CPP) of the 48 total CPPs in the entire state of Massachusetts.

Girls Learn To Play Hockey For FREE

Sunday, September 30, 2018, 9:06AM

Wakefield Youth Skating Association is starting a free Girls Hockey program, with grant funding from Mass Hockey's Mike Cheever Grow Hockey Program. This learn to play program is designed to introduce girls ages 5-9 to the sport of ice hockey. Skaters are expected to be able to stand up on their own and make forward progress.

As part of this program WYSA has access to limited sets of loaner protective gear and skates that have been donated. All skaters are required to wear full protective gear.

All participants will need to register for USA hockey. It's free for girls born 2012 and younger and $48 for girls born 2011 and older.

To participate in the program, skaters should:

  1. Sign-up today for the Girls Try Hockey Program at http://www.wysa.net/l2pgirlsfree
  2. Register with USA Hockey by visiting their website at https://www.usahockeyregistration.com/login_input.action. Note that skaters ages 4-6 can register for free, and the cost to register skaters ages 7-9 is $48.

Interested in this exciting program? For more information, please attend an informational meeting at the Public Safety Building, 1 Union Street in Wakefield on October 30th at 7 PM. If you have questions, please contact Bill Welch at welchwi1126@gmail.com.

Learn to Skate & Play Registration Now Open!

Sunday, September 23, 2018, 11:07AM

Learn to Skate & Play Registration for 2018-2019 is now open!

The Learn to Skate & Play ("LTSP") program is an introduction to the sport of ice skating, with an option to learn and experience the basics of ice hockey. Led by professional hockey instructors from the Tier1 Hockey School, children will be taught basic skating skills. As they progress in ability and confidence, they will transition to learning basic hockey skills. The aim of the program is to provide a fun environment for all participants to become capable skaters, and progress to playing hockey, if desired, at their own pace.

The LTSP program is held on Sundays, beginning Nov. 25, 2018 and running for 15 weeks through Mar. 10, 2019. No sessions will be held Dec. 30, 2018. Each session is one hour, from 11:50 AM to 12:50 AM. If an extra week is needed, i.e., due to bad weather cancellations, there will be a session on Sunday Mar. 17th, 2019.

The program runs at Hockeytown in Saugus, MA. For additional info please visit http://www.wysa.net/clinics

2018 WYSA Midget Program - Registration Now Open!

Tuesday, July 31, 2018, 1:07PM

WYSA is excited to announce that this coming season the Midget half-season program will include more ice time. The Midget program has games from early September through the middle of November. In addition to games, this year we are also adding either an hour of practice time or skills once per week. We will work with the coaches to find the best available time to work around potential high school activity conflicts. The added ice time will hopefully give these players extra time to get themselves ready for the high school season as we recognize many of these players are looking to get themselves ready for tryouts at this level.

The cost will be $325 paid up front during the registration process. While this does represent a cost increase from last year, this price is substantially lower than other local programs. Registration is currently open on the WYSA website. To register, please go to: https://www.wysa.net/login Once you are logged in please hover on REGISTER and click on Tryout Registration 18-19, to get to the on-line registration form.

Please register by Wednesday, August 15th, 2018 for the program.

We have a couple of coaches that have asked to be considered for the Midget coaching staff, if you are interested in coaching please reach out to Brian Casey at brian.casey1@yahoo.com. If you have any questions about the registration process, or about the Midget program itself, please contact us at wskate@wysa.net.
